"In the early days of TV, the first things you saw on TV were radio shows, and only over time did the next format evolve for that medium," says Don Kilburn, chief executive of Pearson Learning Solutions. "I think we're at that stage right now" with textbooks, he says.

Why make digital books?
As Daniel Pink stated in succinctly in his TED Talk and in his book, Drive, if even a small amount of cognative input is needed the challenge-reward system will actually decrease output. He suggests autonomy (desire to direct our own lives), mastery (urge to get better at something that matters), & purpose (yearning to do what we do in the service of something larger than ourselves) (Pink, 2013).

Why ePub?
Electronic Publications or ePub is the closest thing to a cross platform file system currently available. According to Edudemic's 3-24-13 article, ePub can be accessed by any of Apple's iOS devices, Sony Readers, Kobo Readers, & the Nook. File formats can be changed using other programs (CNet Article for example), but chances are you will lose many of the multimedia features.
ePub through a browser?
The best method to read an interactive, digital book with multimedia features through a browser, is using Google Chrome + Readium app for ePub 3.0 documents: Ms. Jane, 1:1 in Practice
What's our purpose today?
Now that we know our reason and drive and we need to figure out what to focus on:
- Electronic Publications or ePub (made on an iPad via app or MacBook via Pages)
- iBooks Author (multi-touch books made on MacBook and published to an iPad)
