iPad Possibilities

Today's workshop is focused on expanding the possibilites when using our school's iPads to learn, create, and demonstrate acquisition of knowledge.  The following topics are available, but each session will take a poll on what topics should be highlighted.

ePub in the Classroom

1) Pick an article.

2) Convert it using dotePub (how-to videos).

3) Upload the document and link it to your classroom SharePoint or school web site.

4) Have your students click on the link and open in iBooks.

5) Ask your students to read, comment, and share using the iPad.

Demonstrate features:

Table of Contents, highlights, notes, define, bookmark, font sizes, page orientation, and more!

Authoring ePubs

Why not let your students author the content?  Have students demonstrate their knowledge about a curricular topic by creating an ePub rich with multimedia.

1) Use Pages on a MacBook or iPad

2) Utilize the free template from Apple for easy formatting.

3) Replace existing text or pictures (tap + hold for menu or highlighting).

4) Add additional pictures, video, tables, charts, shapes.

5) Share the document via email, iWork.com, iDisk, or WebDAV.

*Since Pages for iPad will not export as an ePub, you will need a MacBook to finish the process (ask your TIS or CSA to help).

QR Scavenger Hunt

Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to practice using QR codes in a different way.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Use the available QR scanner on your iPad/iPod Touch to demonstrate the capablitites.  Each QR Code will ask you a question and you will write down the answers (either in the notes app or via Google Doc) to submit the answers.  Good luck!

Bloom's Taxonomy for iPad

Thinking of the activities your students engage in is crucial to what you want them to get out of the experience.  Many iPad/iPod Touch users are categorizing apps or Web 2.0 tools within Bloom's Taxonomy.
